Hickam Air Force Base Corrosion Control Hangar & Maintenance Facility

To support the airlift mission of the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, the US Air Force invested in new hangars, infrastructure, aviation facilities, and housing. As part of the C-17 beddown, the Air Force Center for Engineering and Environment (AFCEE) managed the design and construction of a new $42 million corrosion control hangar and maintenance facility (CCH/MX). The 60,000 square foot structural steel hangar and 20,000 square foot maintenance facility included a composite material shop, structural repair shop, maintenance training area, environmental controls, pollutant controls, fire detection/protection, and aircraft access ramp. The design-build project utilized sustainable design to use recovered materials and reduce waste of toxic and harmful substances.

The AFCEE hired MOCA Systems as a contractor to provide professional services throughout the program lifecycle to deliver the facilities in the most cost effective and timely manner. MOCA provided project controls, cost engineering, MOCABuild construction simulation, and construction oversight services over a two year period. Through accurate cost estimating; monitoring of construction progress, early warning of critical path and slippage issues, and identification of potential recovery options, the MOCA team helped AFCEE and the design-build contractor complete the project on-time and within budget.
