Energy & Sustainability Management
Our mission is to help our clients reduce energy consumption, develop renewable sources, cut carbon emissions and achieve their comprehensive sustainability goals. We are a recognized leader in the sustainable energy arena with experience across a full range of services, from planning and permitting to engineering design and construction. Over the past 10 year, we programmed, planned, and managed energy projects on more than 5,000 MW installed capacity and $600 million of energy efficiency and optimization improvements.
We are leading edge experts in the planning and design of “NetZero Energy” buildings that achieve zero net energy consumption and zero carbon emissions annually through onsite renewable energy sources.
Our integrated framework and approach enable comprehensive energy and sustainability management. We bring together a unique combination of engineers, planners and project managers with advanced technology to optimize individual energy project investments across a campus, installation or serial building program. With an energy and sustainability master plan and our MOCAEnergy software application, owners are able to optimize their investments and track performance against executive orders and organizational goals.
Our Services
Energy Master Planning
We are experienced in all phases of energy master planning. We provide comprehensive engineering, architecture, and construction management services to carryout sustainability and energy conservation measures and maximize the savings to our clients.
Our energy master plans are structured as part of the planning process to set both short- and long-term goals to minimize a facility’s energy and sustainability footprint and achieve organizational goals. We consider the needs of users and stakeholders, evaluate existing conditions and energy usage, and estimate the capital needed and partners required.
Our team proposes a plan with solutions, a schedule for implementation, and mechanism to track results. Typically, improvements include the modification or upgrades to electrical and mechanical systems, improvements to utility contracts and use of financing, tax incentives and energy-efficiency grants.
Energy Audits
Our qualified and experienced staff provides high quality audits and energy efficiency technology assessments that are accurate, complete, and defensible to serve your energy efficiency needs. In addition, we correctly evaluate technical feasibility and cost effectiveness of new technologies to avoid overly ambitious technology commitments.
Our team offers expertise in energy audits – including benchmarking studies and preliminary Whole Building Energy Use (WBEU) analyses, walk-through audits to identify simple and low-cost energy conservation measures (ECMs), detailed energy audits and comprehensive analyses, as well as investment grade audits with rigorous engineering studies. We identify measures sufficient to satisfy the financial criteria of sophisticated investors.
Our team is experienced with greenhouse gas (GHG) best available control technology (BACT) analyses in response to proposed federal GHG BACT regulations under Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) air quality permitting regulations, NEPA/CEQA GHG impact analyses and GHG mitigation selection, GHG emissions inventories and reporting, and other energy efficiency and GHG compliance needs.
Energy Management
Getting the most from energy investments require an integrated approach as well as an understanding of energy usage and energy supply options. We work with clients to integrate demand-side energy efficiency and load management opportunities with supply-side opportunities, including forward market procurement and onsite generation, to develop a total energy solution.
Our consulting and engineering services combine our technical expertise with an in-depth understanding of the changing energy and utility marketplace to deliver integrated and optimized total energy solutions to our clients. We provide full-service expertise in the latest energy technologies, processes, building systems, power systems engineering, environmental permitting, risk management, and market contracting strategies.
Our integrated approach differentiates us from other energy management providers with services that encompass all phases of project development and delivery, from strategic planning through design, construction, operations, and maintenance.
LEED Certification
The key to successful sustainable design and LEED certification is, first and foremost, the integrated design relationship between parties involved. Our clients are committed to sustainable development of their facilities and infrastructure projects, and have mandated certification or equivalent by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. At MOCA, we are proven sustainability experts with LEED-accredited professionals to help our clients achieve their sustainability goals and LEED certification – on both individual projects and standardized prototypes for multi-project programs.
Ongoing Measurement & Verification
Our professionals help owners implement measurement and verification options to isolate the variables to be metered along with the duration and frequency of such measurements. Our professionals help define a baseline performance, assess energy savings, monitor performance and ensure owners only pay for realized savings.
The field of measurement and verification (M&V) of energy savings matured in the last decade. These improvements greatly help owners improve the tracking and reporting of energy data for analyses, performance, reporting, and budgeting purposes. The recently revised and updated International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) provide our customers with good information and a safe method for verifying energy savings.
We work with the most current best practice techniques available for verifying results of energy-efficiency and renewable-energy projects.
