Alabama Tornado Relief

Tuscaloosa, Cullman, Huntsville, Rainsville, & Gadsden, AL (2011)

A widespread and violent tornado outbreak, known as the 2011 Super Outbreak, occurred in April 2011 across the Southern, Midwestern, and Northeastern United States. In Alabama, four of the tornadoes that struck were rated EF5, the highest rating possible on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which evaluates tornados based on destructiveness. In total, an estimated 344 people lost their lives, with 239 of those deaths in Alabama.This event was the most expensive tornado outbreak and one of the costliest natural disasters in United States history with total damages exceeding $10 billion.

U.S. Government - Virtual Net Zero Energy (NZE) Test Bed

Nationwide (2011 - 2014)

MOCA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) will jointly develop the “Virtual Net Zero Energy (NZE) Test Bed” through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) over a four year period.

Salt Lake City – Nation’s First Net Zero Public Safety Building

Salt Lake City, UT (2009 – 2012)

The new 125,000 SF Public Safety Building and dedicated 65,000 SF Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will establish a critical emergency response center in a vibrant Salt Lake City downtown block. The facility is expected to achieve Net Zero Energy and be the first Net Zero Public Safety Building in the country.

Guam Military Build-up

Island of Guam (2008-2015)

Guam is the furthest west US territory for military basing in the Pacific and will serve as the nation’s first line of defense – or “tip of the spear”. The DoD and Government of Japan are investing an estimated $15 billion in Guam – one of the largest movements of military assets in decades. As part of the Defense Policy Review Initiative (DPRI), the Guam population of 171,000 is expected to triple including the redeployment of 8,000 Marines from Okinawa, Japan.
